Fashion, Art & Music Flea Market in Downtown Raleigh, NC
(ContentDesk) October 11, 2005 -- The Rock & Shop Market will hold its second fashion, art & music flea market on October 29th from 1-5pm at the Tir Na Nog in Downtown Raleigh, NC. The event features local and national designers selling their mostly handmade fashion products. Items for sale include handcrafted jewelry, silk-screened apparel, handmade journals, note cards, comics, soaps and more. Area musicians, Schooner, Now Sleepyhead and DJ Marco will be performing as a backdrop to the funky bazaar.The Market was created out of a desire to foster fellowship within the young local arts community. Inspired by the success of other alternative fairs that have sprouted up across the country, The Rock & Shop Market aims to spotlight the Triangles own do-it-yourself spirit.
The majority of vendors are designers and crafters from the Triangle area; many also sell their products in boutique stores across the country. This event is a unique opportunity to meet the designers behind the product."The Rock & Shop Market is something weve needed for a long time in an area full of 20- and 30-somethings reclaiming crafting, knitting, making things by hand and making it hip and fun and rock & roll , says Niku Arbabi founder of Ms. Films, a Durham based non-profit that supports women in film. It's a rare treat to see a number of local crafters of this kind in one place, when normally our crafts are confined to stitch-and-bitch groups, friends, or solitary work. Niku was a vendor at last years Market and takes her own projects on tour around the country. The kind of work that is represented at the Rock & Shop and the concept of the event itself are usually found in big cities and more urban communities.
